Digital magnetic tape sensors MXW/MXI - for particularly long measuring ranges

Industrial applications, including metal and wood processing, sometimes require length measurements of large distances. Typical applications are found in plant and mechanical engineering, for example for controlling cutting machines or portal milling machines. The sensors of the MXW/MXI series from WayCon Positionsmesstechnik can detect measuring ranges of up to 100 m.

The MXW/MXI magnetic measuring system consists of a robust magnetic tape mounted on a mounting surface and a digital read head. This slides over the magnetic tape without contact and thus without wear. The insensitivity to chips, splinters and even dust represents a significant added value compared to optical systems. The variable mounting distance between the magnetic tape and the sensor can be up to 2 mm to ensure the flexibility of the read head despite intervening particles. Sensors of the MXW series operate with resolutions of 1000 µm or 2000 µm and have a sine-cosine 1 Vpp real-time output. The various read heads of the MXI series impress with very high resolutions between 0.5 µm and 50 µm and output an HTL or TTL signal. The outputs can then be optionally routed to a controller or position display to process or visualize the measurements. WayCon magnetic tape sensors have IP67 protection class.
