Overfill protection in liquid naphthalene with demanding process conditions
2020-08-05 13:36:20, UWT LLCIn order to meet the harsh conditions of chemical applications in practice with a clever solution, plant designers are increasingly using the capacitive rod probes. This is also the case at a plant in India for monitoring tanks containing liquid naphthalene, which is used, among other things, to manufacture mothballs. The capacitive RFnivo®from UWT encounters different temperatures here as well as varying material conditions that must be handled quickly and reliably.
Providing the storage tanks with a reliable point level measurement that optimally adapts to the fluctuating ambient conditions due to its design was crucial in this content monitoring. Each tank was equipped with a side-mounted RF probe for full detection. There is a process pressure of approx. 0.8bar (11.6psi). The DK value varies between 1.6 and 2.0. During material removal, caking occurs very quickly on the sensor delivery due to the temperature drop. In the 1700mm measuring range, the probes within the individual steel chambers thus operate under constantly changing process temperatures (max. up to 80°C (176°F)). The "Active Shield" technology integrated as standard in the RF probe ensures here that the measurement result is not influenced by the buildup occurring on the boom, even in the long term.
