The DCL 531 stainless steel submersible probe with RS485 interface uses the Modbus RTU communication protocol, which has found its way into industrial communication as an open protocol. The Modbus protocol is based on a master-slave architecture, where up to 247 slaves can be polled by a master - the data is transmitted in binary form.
