Air quality measurement with the MEMS-based module MiCS-VZ-86 or MiCS-VZ-89 from SGX Sensortech
2015-09-07 07:53:21, Angst+Pfister Sensors and Power AG Pewatron introduces four new intelligent air quality measurement modules from SGX Sensortech. Using an innovative metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) technology with a MEMS structure, the MiCS-VZ-86/89 MEMS-based air quality module simplifies the process of VOC detection. The sensors respond quickly to changes in the concentration of a wide range of VOCs and thus air quality. This technology has been mass produced by SGX for more than 10 years and is subject to strict quality control. The low power consumption module incorporates an advanced signal processing algorithm through which the sensor signal is converted into standard outputs. The proprietary algorithm also automatically compensates for small changes in sensor output that occur over a period of time and supports calibration-free operation.
The modules are available in four versions combining different output and supply voltage formats. Available output formats are I2C (MiCS-VZ-89) and PWM (MiCS-VZ-86), and for both, the supply voltage can be freely selected between 3.3 VDC (MiCS-VZ-89T/MiCS-VZ-86T) and 5 VDC (MiCS-VZ-89F/MiCS-VZ-86F).
The sensor not only provides an effective tool for monitoring the concentration of VOCs in the air, but it also provides an equivalence signal for the concentration of carbon dioxide. The CO2 value is often used as an indication of air quality.
The measuring module is particularly suitable for the following applications:
- Presence detection to reduce energy costs through the intelligent control of air conditioning, ventilation and heating
- Control of air quality in vehicle cabins
- Control of fans in bathrooms and kitchens
- Air filters and cleaners
