We test the functionality of all our products in our calibration laboratory. Careful control of in-house development and sales of our products has given Althen a special position in the German market for measurement technology and sensors, being one of the first companies in the industry to be certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
Miniature pressure sensors
The EB100 sets new standards in price/performance ratio for demanding commercial and heavy industrial applications requiring high accuracy, compact size and low weight. The range is suitable for measuring the pressure of liquids or gases, including difficult substances such as contaminated water, vapors and slightly corrosive liquids. The EB100 utilizes ultra-stabilized technology to provide stability over a wide temperature range with performance previously reserved for much more expensive sensors. Ultra-stable technology uses silicon-based strain gauges isolated from the medium by an oil-filled capsule and stainless steel diaphragm. High stability is ensured by the MEMS-based technology, which also offers excellent repeatability and minimal hysteresis. With the medium 100% insulated from the stainless steel, the miniature pressure sensors can be used in virtually all corrosive environments and offer excellent durability, with custom OEM designs available including a variety of connector and performance options.

Application Scenarios
Pressure sensors for the braking system of the Delft Hyperloop train
In summer 2019, Dutch student teams will once again participate in the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod competition. In this competition, student teams from all over the world will design and build a Hyperloop Pod model. All teams meet at SpaceX's headquarters to face off in prototypes in a 1.2-kilometer-long vacuum tube. The team is aiming high this year: not only to break the current Hyperloop speed record of 467 kilometers per hour, but also to exceed half the speed of sound, a huge technical challenge! The new pod must not only accelerate to top speed in the shortest possible time, but also come to rest again in time within the limited length of the vacuum tube.
To prevent the pod from "slamming" into the solid steel door at the end of the pipe, the braking system had to operate trouble-free throughout. To improve the reliability of the braking system, the team made it fully redundant and also improved the monitoring of the system. To do this, Althen Sensors & Controls provided small, lightweight but highly accurate pressure sensors. After carefully reviewing all the sensor requirements, Althen engineers chose the EB100 miniature pressure sensor to monitor the braking system.
