CAN bus on the rail - safety systems

Safety on the rails is multifaceted and goes far beyond the tracks. For example, railroad wagons must be equipped with advanced protection systems in order to identify cable fires at an early stage and thus increase safety in rail transportation.

This is where the CAN interface comes into play: the CAN (Controller Area Network) bus is a technology originally developed by Bosch for the automotive sector to enable communication between different control units in vehicles without having to rely on a central control unit. It quickly spread beyond the automotive industry and is now used in many areas, such as here in the railroad sector.
