Filtered and temperature-stable acceleration sensors

Sensor saturation - or sensor overload - and sensitivity to temperature changes in piezoelectric sensors have been a major challenge in the development of vibration sensors since the introduction of ICP technology.

At the request of a major automotive supplier, PCB Inc. has developed a filtered acceleration sensor with maximum stable sensitivity over a wide temperature range.

The basis of these modern sensors is the new piezoelectric sensor material UHT-12™. The temperature stability of this material shows significantly better results than that of quartz and ceramic, which were previously used for the sensor elements. In addition to this stable sensor material, a low-pass filter is integrated into the internal ICP sensor electronics, which largely prevents overloading. A low background noise, extremely low base strain sensitivity and an extended higher frequency range are also achieved.
