New miniature measuring ring enables reliable monitoring of shear forces

Measurement technology specialist HBM (Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik) presents its new PACEline CSW miniature measuring rings for the safe monitoring of shear forces. Typical applications of the new piezoelectric sensors are force monitoring of metal-cutting processes such as cutting, milling and turning. In addition, the force washer can be converted very quickly into a multi-axis sensor.

The piezoelectric shear force measuring rings of the PACEline CSW series have a very low overall height of 3 to 5 mm. When mounted and calibrated, these sensors reliably measure shear forces in the cable direction. With their low overall height of 3 to 5 mm, the CSW measuring rings are extremely space-saving and have the same dimensions as the PACEline CLP measuring rings (for measuring normal forces), which have been offered by HBM for several years and have proven themselves many times over.

In combination with the CLP force washers, as well as different mounting directions of at least two CSW washers, it is possible to build up measuring systems that measure forces in different directions at the same time and build very small.

The PACEline CSW series force washers have a permanently connected cable, are made of stainless materials and achieve IP65 protection. PACEline CSW is available in nominal forces from 1 kN to 8 kN. Thanks to suitable accessories, also available directly from HBM, the measuring device can also be installed quickly. Users do not need any additional insulation washers - thanks to galvanic isolation.
