Magnetic field sensors are suitable for non-contact speed sensing of objects made of ferromagnetic materials and can be connected to digital speed indicators or frequency-to-analogue converters. They consist of a differential transducer and a post amplifier with an open collector output and, as sensors with a 3-wire connection, they generate a square wave signal at the output. Compared to inductive or capacitive 3-wire sensors, they have the advantage in non-contact speed measurements of generating perfect signals over the entire frequency range of interest, even with relatively large gaps and small modules, over a very large speed range.
