From Death Valley to Antarctica in 30 seconds

RHEINTACHO FC and FE speed sensors have already been proven in tough everyday use for many years. Nevertheless, within the scope of a customer project, a request was made for a test that had not yet been carried out in this form.

The customer had extreme requirements for the stability of its components, in the specific case of the speed sensor, against temperature changes due to its experience from the practical use of its devices and the potential for faults when using (electronic) components.

The RHEINTACHO project team designed a combination of two speed sensors from the RHEINTACHO modular system for the application: Mechanically based on the FC sensor. Electronically based on the FE sensor. Version as 2-channel Hall differential sensor. Suitable for the detection of speed and direction of rotation. Standstill detection (0 Hz) possible. Connection interface with a widely used Deutsch connector type. Protection class sensor side IP6K9K / IP67.

Due to the intelligent and modern electronic design, mechanics and electronics are very well suited to withstand extreme thermal cycling.
Nevertheless, during the test procedure described below, the RHEINTACHO development crew was also eagerly awaiting the results.

The test procedure is very simple and extremely demanding:
1000 alternating cycles between -40°C and 125°C. Changeover time between the two limit temperatures: max. 30 seconds. Retention time at the respective limit temperatures: 40 minutes.

The impressive result: All tested speed sensors survived this "torture stretch" fully functional.
